What kind of complications could patients have or have they had after their surgery?
So far no complications that required re-operation (such as atelectasis, leaks, etc) - minor complications such as infection of a port of entry, seroma, nausea, and occasional vomiting - with resolution within 24-48 hours.
Will there be a barium contrast test after surgery to check for leaks? Yes
Tightness test is performed according to the technique used.
Test for placement of Lap-Band and gastric plication is performed at 24hrs post op with water soluble material
Test for sleeve gastrectomy or gastric bypass (leak test) is performed at 24-36hrs post op before initiating oral fluids.
All test procedures performed intraoperative methylene blue.
For open surgery, how long is the incision? Where is the incision?
Open surgery is usually unnecessary - if so, the incision is 12cm made in the supra-umbilical region

Only one case of transient infection in the wound site (1cm)

What size Bougie will the doctor use?
The size depends on the type of surgical procedure that is performed (sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass or Lap-Band) at regural standard calibration is from 32 to 36 Fr. The norm for the sleeve is 34.
It is said that a good surgeon will always use fluoroscopy machine. Do you use this?

How long is the recovery period?
It depends on what kind of work the patient does (physical or sedentary). We recommend 14 - 21 days off work.
Is there a diet pre-operation and post-operation required? How long? Yes
We use a specific diet for preoperatively and postoperatively. Preoperative diet depends on the body mass index BMI and will begin about 12 days prior to surgery. The diet after the operation depends on the type of surgery, and will be progressive during the first month.
